Dan de Zille raced to a competitive top 10 finish during the Final of this year’s Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit on Sunday, 16th October – capping off a strong season of action for the 24-year-old from Jersey.

Marking the 40th anniversary of the world’s biggest and most prestigious Formula Ford event, Dan proved he had the pace to run at the very front and although disappointed not to have been in the reckoning for a podium he still ended the festival reasonably satisfied.

Unfortunately, the weekend got off on the wrong footing when a rogue set of...

Weather and handling issues hamper Dan’s Final Formula Ford EuroCup round at Zandvoort
Date: Monday, August 15th, 2011

As the EuroCup Tour came to an end in Zandvoort over the weekend so did Dan’s hopes of a EuroCup podium. Torrential weather and handling issues were the underlying cause of the weekend’s progress.

Qualifying on Friday at Zandvoort was wet, Dan was running well in the early stages, lying in 6th place right up until the last lap before being piped by the local Dutch runners in the closing stages of the session. Final results were P9 for race 1, P7 for Races 2 and 3.

Race 1 was in difficult damp track conditions early on Saturday morning problems with the rear...

Date: Monday, July 18th, 2011

Dan took part in his second Belgium EuroCup race this month, after his double podium adventures in Spa Francorchamps. This round also counted for the Dutch Formula Ford Championship.

With 25 cars on the grid at Belgium's former Grand Prix venue and the track notorious for being a difficult circuit on which to pass, Dan was playing catch-up after not being able to test at Zolder before practice and it was once again Scott Malvern who romped to a double victory of the weekend.

After qualifying in 15th position in Practice on Friday problems arose in both races, run in tricky conditions...

Dan de Zille misses out Podium by seconds in Aston Martin Challenge weekend
Date: Tuesday, June 28th, 2011

Following victory in Round 2 of the Aston Martin GT4 Challenge at Snetterton. Dan joined Nicholas Mee Racing at Donington Park at the weekend for rounds 3 and 4. However, with Saturday’s 3hr race curtailed and an electronic gremlin hampering progress in Sunday’s extended race, NMR’s highly competitive pace wasn’t accurately reflected in the result.

Saturday morning’s qualifying was held in light drizzle, and, driving well within his limits, Dan de Zille set a lap time that would place NMR third on the grid. Although both de Zille and Team Manager Giles Dawson felt that a better time was within reach, with...

Torrential Rain, Two Red Flags and Gearbox failure, but still Dan de Zille brings home the silverware!
Date: Tuesday, June 21st, 2011

Brands Hatch hosted the first of the EuroCup rounds for the British Formula Ford Championship, which invites drivers from the Dutch Formula Ford series to join the British grid.

Testing on the Friday went well, with Dan in the top 10 all day, finishing 3rd fastest overall on the full Brands Hatch GP circuit, one of Dan’s favourites. Qualifying would also have followed suit, was it not for Dan catching traffic on the last flying lap. However, he’d done enough to gain respectable start positions of 5th, 5th and 4th for the weekend’s three races.

Race 1 on the Saturday was...

In qualifying Karsten went out first to set the time. But a major excursion at...

Dan de Zille ranks 5th in the Formula Ford Championship title chase despite being shunted off at Snetterton
Date: Tuesday, May 17th, 2011

Engine problems during testing prefaced a series of dramas that unfolded for Dan last weekend at Snetterton. It took a late engine change to give Dan the pace he needed, ready with only minutes to go before qualifying for him to gather up the pieces and qualify in a respectable 8th position.

Race 1 should have been about knuckling down and picking off the front runners, but his strategy was thrown into disarray when Spike Goddard made an ill-considered late-braking overtake which took both him and Dan out on lap one. Both Dan and Goddard rejoined, but at the back of the...

Well-deserved Podium for Dan de Zille after a troubled weekend at Oulton Park in the Formula Ford Championship

Oulton Park was the venue for rounds (4, -5, and 6) of the MSA Formula Ford Championship, with Easter Sunday breaking up the race days. The JTR team experienced a few technical problems during testing, in which meant two of the team’s cars needing a virtual rebuild to...

Formula Ford Festival
Date: Saturday, October 16th, 2010

The festival started on a high note, with Dan qualifying second for heat 2. After getting ahead of James Tucker at the start a faster starting Dennis Lind took the lead out of paddock hill bend. After a spirited fight James Tucker also made his way back past, leaving Dan to finish 3rd.

The start to the quarter final did not go quite so well, with a poor getaway dropping Dan down to 5th but he quickly dealt with Michel Florie and set to getting past Jack Swinkels. However a last lap move up the inside at Druids ended badly when the...

Taking a break from his usual Formula Ford duties before the festival, Dan competed in the Britcar 24HR in a Nicholas Mee Racing run Aston Martin V8 Vantage with team mates Karsten le Blanc, Sarah Bennett-Baggs and Ben de Zille Butler.

While the car was very different to his usual ride he took to it instantly, setting the pace within the team from the start. A damp and greasy weekend at Silverstone in the Ford earlier in the year paying dividends in terms of wet line experience.

After having only done 3 runs in the car Dan managed to qualify it 27th. The...

A difficult couple of days testing lead into qualifying with pace in the dry still being an unknown. Threatening weather had hopes up for a wet day but in the end a dry qualifying saw Dan qualify in 10th, 10th and 11th. His best time was 0.8s faster than his best in practice but still not enough to push him up the grid.

Rain over lunch meant that the right hand side of the grid was still damp at the start and this severely hampered the getaway of all on this side, Dan included. Coming into Abbey on lap one Dan made...

Another sterling qualifying effort saw Dan qualify 4th and 5th, just being pipped to 3rd in race one by Antti Buri and beaten for race two by championship leader Scott Malvern by just 0.001s.

Race one started badly with both Jake Cook and Scott Malvern getting past on the run down to the first corner. Fighting between the cars in front held Dan up for a couple of laps before an attempt to get past at the second hairpin forced him wide onto the grass allowing Dan Cammish to get past. For the rest of the race Dan was locked onto Cammish's...

With the focus now squarely on qualifying after a few difficult weekends, Dan performed brilliantly, qualifying in 6th for race one and 8th in race two, his best qualifying performance so far by a long way. This was in spite of brushing a tyre bale on his second flying lap which prevented any improvement.

Race one started well with Dan getting up to 5th place at the start, however a mistake at the last corner on the first lap dropped him back to 6th behind Tio Ellinas. After a poor qualifying Dennis Lind was also charging through the pack and Dan couldn’t...

Another promising Friday practice with Dan placing 2nd and 4th raised hopes for a good weekend. Unfortunately brake issues during qualifying meant that he only qualified 15th and 17th.

Race one had an exciting start with two cars on Dan’s side stalling on the grid. Those behind were boxed in and Dan lost two or three places on the run down to the first turn. Undeterred, he fought back through to 11th but a mistake in the closing stages dropped him back to 13th.

Race two saw the heavens open and after a good start Dan struggled with the conditions and brought the...

After placing 3rd in Friday morning’s test session and 1st in two of the afternoons sessions things were looking up. Unfortunately an issue in qualifying saw Dan only qualify 12th, 9th and 9th, still his best qualifying performance to date by a long way.

The first race was going well with Dan getting up to 8th, before a trip through the gravel put him back down to 15th. However, he fought back and eventually finished in 11th place.

Starting from 9th there were great expectations for race 2, especially since the handling issue from qualifying seemed to be sorted. Spending most of the...

A troubled qualifying set off a weekend to forget at Oulton Park.

Starting from the back Dan was hit at the first corner in the first race. This resulted in a cracked exhaust and it was decided to bring him in rather than risk further damage to the car.

Race two went a little better, but not much. On the second lap he slid off on oil at Druids and damaged the front left suspension, ending his race.

The last race of the weekend made up for some of the lows, with Dan starting from 22nd and finishing 12th while setting a time over...
