Drivers from nine different nations and Formula Ford championships across Europe and Scandinavia are set to descend on Belgium for the latest races in the new Formula Ford EuroCup series.
The EuroCup, successfully inaugurated last month at Brands Hatch, visits the Belgian Grand Prix venue of Spa-Francorchamps this Friday and Saturday (8/9 July) for a trio of 20-minute races alongside the British GT and European GT4 championships. Where Dan will be taking part in both the EuroCup and contesting the Nicholas Mee Racing Aston Martin in the European GT4 rounds.
A field of 20 Duratec-powered cars are expected in Belgium for the EuroCup made up of runners from the Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain and the rest drawn from the Benelux and Scandinavian series.
Whist Scott Malvern heads up the British Championship and leads the Jamun Racing squad, Jamun's perennial UK rivals JTR will have its usual trio of Mygales in action for Geoff Uhrhane, Tristan Mingay and Dan de Zille.
For the rest of the weekend Dan will be back in the close-to standard Aston Martin V8 Vantage for the 5th round of the 2011 Aston Martin GT4 Challenge. The season has so far been packed with excitement and close competition no less at Donington when the four lead cars finished on the same lap. Dan has made a guest appearance driving for the London based Nicholas Mee Racing Team at both Donington and Snetterton this season helping the team secure their first outright race win at Snetterton.
Dan’s busy Spa weekend timetable starts with testing his JTR run Mygale Single Seater tomorrow followed by Qualifying in the EuroCup on Friday at 11.25am and racing in the afternoon at 15.30pm. Dan also will leap into the V8 Vantage for a few practice laps at 12.00 and qualify with the NMR team on Friday afternoon at 16.00pm.
Saturday’s programme starts early with Race 2 of the EuroCup at 9am and one of the two one hour Aston Martin GT4 races starting at 9.40am. Race 3 of the EuroCup is at 12.40pm and the final outing for Dan will be at 13.20pm in the GT4. Needless to say, we suspect he will be pretty tired after all those laps of the fast 4.2 mile alpine circuit!
Dan said "I’m really looking forward to the weekend, probably the best circuit on the calendar and it will be an even larger challenge learning it in two cars! But it's a challenge I'm really up for and I've been spending some time in the simulator so should be looking to push from the get go. However it goes it will be a great experience!"
