After placing 3rd in Friday morning’s test session and 1st in two of the afternoons sessions things were looking up. Unfortunately an issue in qualifying saw Dan only qualify 12th, 9th and 9th, still his best qualifying performance to date by a long way.
The first race was going well with Dan getting up to 8th, before a trip through the gravel put him back down to 15th. However, he fought back and eventually finished in 11th place.
Starting from 9th there were great expectations for race 2, especially since the handling issue from qualifying seemed to be sorted. Spending most of the race dicing with Jesse Anttila and Emil Bernstorff meant that he dropped back a little from the front running group but this turned out to be a stroke of luck as one by one the front runners dropped out. Eventually coming out in front of his own group he found himself sitting in 3rd place!
Race three was made rather more challenging by 3 cars who passed him under yellow flags in 2 separate incidents. From then on he was caught up in some scrappy racing further down the field and despite some brave attempts at getting through could not make any progress through the field, finishing 12th.
Comments from Dan:
“That was a bit more like it! Obviously disappointing not to be able to take our Friday pace through to the weekend but we are getting much closer with the car and the team are working flat out to understand the last few issues. First podium was incredible, certainly not expecting that after Oulton!”
